Joining the 21st century

I'm thinking of buying a mp3 player. Anyone have any suggestions? I don't need it to have video capabilities, just an mp3 player with a lot of space (at least a couple gigs). Sell it to me!

What are you going to use it for? (Other than listening to mp3s, obviously.)

Megan likes her iPod nano, but it would bug me. It's everything I don't like about most mp3 players.

For me, I buy the cheapest thing I can find that has:
-- A built-in USB jack (I use four or five different computers in the course of a day, and I'm not carrying a cable.)
-- Ability to be recognized and used as a decent-sized, portable hard drive. That way I can download those big video files on the fast connection at work and bring them home to watch. Most of them do that, but some want you to use their software in order to sync. Well, your software doesn't fucking work if I'm using Linux, assholes.
-- Has to be 1-2 Gb of flash memory. I've heard that the mini hard drive players are more susceptible to shock and fucking up.
-- Uses a AAA battery. I carry two or three rechargeable AAAs in my pocket, and then if the battery dies while I'm on the bus, I don't have to wait until I find a USB port to recharge. Plus, rechargeable batteries eventually die, including non-removeable ones built into a device. So, when your $600 iPhone won't charge up anymore in a year or two, you're fucked.

Those are my parameters. The one I'm currently using is:

It's pretty good, though it lies when it says it's USB2.0, and the on/off button just broke. But I took it apart and kind of fixed it. I'll probably be buying a new one by the end of the year.

Not unless it comes with it. I have pockets, I can use them.

If 1 gig of space cuts it for your needs, I'll suggest the iPod shuffle. Great battery life and very portable. If you can live without having an lcd screen to tell you what track you're listening to, get the shuffle!
